Ancient Du - small
This instrument doesn't have an English name. Its origin came from one of Chu
Kingdom's Rhythm Classical Collection. In ancient China, the Chu Kingdom (an area now occupied by Hubei and Hunan provinces)
was a state famous for its musical instruments. The origins of this pottery instrument are believed to date back to the Stone
Age. During 770-467 BC, it was very popular in southern China, in the lower reaches of the Yangtze River. Hubei lay in the
middle part of this region and was rich in fish and rice. That is why it was later made in the shape of fish to remember the
land and at the same time bring out the symbol of good luck and great wealth (The Chinese Character Yu for Fish
means abundance). The instrument is sometimes called a Yu Du
It is a rare, wind instrument segmented through 11 holes. It is played in
China by professionals as well as amateurs. Moreover, it is also a handcrafted artifact with Feng Shui attributes. Like the
bamboo flute, it is hollow and round hence attracting good Qi. It is placed inside your home or office to moderate the circulation
of Qi. It is said to drive away bad Qi and bad luck and disperse strong or malignant energy.

The process of creating these instruments begins with the selection of clay
from the bank of the Yangtze river. From beginning to end this is a manual process, which imbues the resulting instrument
with the artisan's positive creative energy.
